PC File Transfer Using a TSO Session

If you have any questions about the content of this page, please contact Requests for clarification

Getting Started
Files can be transferred between a PC and the NWRDC OS/390 host using a TSO session. The customer session with TSO at NWRDC can occur via either the SNA network or TCP/IP (Internet).

The customer must first have PC client software that emulates a 3270-device, and the client software must support the IND$FILE feature of IBM TSO. PC 3270 emulator software is available from many commercial vendors, such as Hummingbird, Attachmate, IBM, and many others.

Operation
To perform a file transfer using this process, first connect the PC 3270 client to NWRDC, logon, and select NWRTSO from the menu. When connected to TSO, navigate to the TSO "READY" prompt (press PF3 as needed). Then, choose the file upload/download option as defined by the PC client being used. This may be an icon on the toolbar, or a selection from an "Options" menu, etc. Operation will vary depending on the particular client software in use.

*NOTE*
It is very important that the TSO session be positioned at the "READY" prompt before the transfer is attempted. The transfer will fail otherwise.
